Diabetes & blood sugar

Diabetes in pets is on the rise, and it's closely tied to weight and diet. With good daily care, many diabetic pets live full, happy lives.

How common is it?

Rates are climbing. One large US report covering more than 2.5 million pets found diabetes rose by nearly a third in dogs and by 16% in cats over just four years.1

Signs to watch for

  • Drinking much more water and peeing more
  • Eating more but losing weight
  • Tiredness and less interest in play
  • Dogs: cloudy eyes from cataracts
  • Cats: weak back legs, walking flat on their hocks

What raises the risk?

Excess weight is the big one, along with age, inactivity and, for cats, high-carbohydrate diets. Pancreatitis and some medications can also play a part.

What you can do at home

  • Same time, same amount. Consistent meal times and portions make blood sugar far easier to manage, especially alongside insulin.
  • Keep exercise steady. Similar activity every day helps; sudden bursts can drop blood sugar.
  • Know the signs of low blood sugar: weakness, wobbling, confusion or trembling. Call your vet straight away.
  • Track water intake. A rise in drinking can be the first sign their levels need adjusting.
  • Work towards a healthy weight. In cats especially, weight loss and the right diet can sometimes send diabetes into remission.

How Optimus Pet fits in

  • Award-winning for blood sugar. Optimus Pet has won multiple health awards for its effects on metabolism, including balancing blood sugar levels, lowering high triglycerides and LDL cholesterol, and raising HDL.
  • Smarter metabolism. Our natural gene activators are designed to engage the master regulators of metabolism, helping balance how the body uses fats, sugar and amino acids.
  • Lean, filling nutrition. High-quality protein and fibre with no added sugar, salt or fillers, ideal for weight management.

Important: if your pet is on insulin, any change in diet can change how much insulin they need. Monitor blood sugar closely with your vet when you start Optimus Pet.

Which formula?

We recommend The Potent Vials for diabetic pets, with The Gold Series for seniors or pets with other chronic conditions. The Blue Series is a great daily base for healthy weight and metabolism.
